As your due date approaches, it's important to have your hospital bag packed and ready to go. But what should you pack? Here's a checklist of essential items to bring with you when you go into labor:

For you:

  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes to wear during labor and postpartum
  • Robe or sweater to wear over hospital gown
  • Socks and slippers
  • Nursing bras and breast pads
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, etc.)
  • Non-slip socks or slippers
  • Snacks and drinks for labor and post delivery
  • Any medications you take regularly
  • You phone and its charger
  • Entertainment (your favourite books, magazines, music)

 For the little one:

  • Swaddles
  • Onesies and sleepers
  • Hat and socks
  • Car seat (make sure it's properly installed in your car before you go into labor)
  • Diapers and wipes

For your partner / support person:

  • Comfortable clothes
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Toiletries
  • Phone charger and camera to capture those first precious moments

 Other things to consider:

  • Your NHIF card and or your other insurance card and ID

  • Any items to make your hospital stay more comfortable (an extra pillow, blanket, etc.)
